City Purchases Old WSDOT Property, Approves Downtown Apartments

Wenatchee Mayor Frank Kuntz joins Dan Langager on the KOHO Morning Show to talk about recent land purchases and future developments throughout the city.
The city council recently approved the purchase of the State Department of Transportation’s large property on North Wenatchee Avenue. The city plans to demolish several buildings there and nearby to make room for a lengthened McKittrick Street and then future development like apartments, hotels, retail stores and more.
The city council also approved a purchase & sale agreement with Weidner Apartments to build a five-story apartment complex downtown on Mission St., similar to the new Riverside 9 apartments, although Kuntz said construction won’t start for a couple years.
Mayor Kuntz said work also continues on converting the old Federal Building into the new City Hall, and the city has eyes on other prime properties, like the soon-to-be-vacated Chelan PUD headquarters at Wenatchee Ave. and 5th St.
Right on, Frank. Rent control?
