Major Leavenworth, Highway 2 Traffic Study Covers Cars, Buses, Pedestrians

Traffic woes in the Leavenworth area have grown steadily over the past 20 or so years. A new survey hopes to gather information on how to alleviate or at least deal with the growing problem, as Marcus Bellissimo reports.

It’s called the US 2 Upper Wenatchee Valley Corridor Transportation Study.

The Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council is working with the City of Leavenworth, Chelan County, the Washington State Department of Transportation and Link Transit to study options to improve mobility and safety for all modes of travel along the 26-mile stretch of US 2 in Chelan County between Coles Corner/Lake Wenatchee, through Leavenworth to the Big Y and Cashmere.

Learn more about the study and fill out the survey at the website: US2UpperWenatchee.

I live on Icicle td. I feel to help with some traffic woes during festivals park cars at the fish hatchery and shuttle people to and from town. Also slow people down on icicle & east leav rd.

Friday July 26 it took 40 minutes from milepost 97 to the new pedestrian light in Leavenworth. Save you doing the math, that’s 2 miles. Check the RCW about flashing red light. Come to a complete stop and proceed, when clear. That’s two miles of vehicles coming to a complete stop. The flashing light is activated when there are no pedestrians. Now please don’t say the 26th was heavy volume. I have a home in Chelan and have been driving through Leavenworth for over 20 years with heavy volume traffic, which has included all holidays. Your light is the issue. Suggest you deactivate that light during “heavy traffic times”. The word insane comes to mind when I think of 40 minutes for 2 miles. Would love to see DOT stats on pedestrian car accidents in Leavenworth.

Pedestrian overpass would improve safety and allow traficto flow better. In the town of Leavenworth, specifically, if there were three pedestrian bridges. ONE MAIN EXTRA WIDE in the middle of Leavenworth and one at both ends of town. This would allow kids, pets, tourists and people with disabilities a safe alternative to crossing a very busy and congested street. These would of course need to be covered with chain link or the like . That would ensure safety for all. We can’t widen the road so we need to look for alternatives to allow safe passage for ALL. Thank you, Tracy
