Leavenworth Study Reveals City Over Capacity For Parking, Not Just On Festival Weekends

If you’ve ever tried parking in downtown Leavenworth, especially during peak seasons, weekends or festivals, you know it can be frustrating. A new study looks at what can be done to alleviate the problem. Marcus Bellissimo reports on a public meeting this week and that you can still submit your comments on parking in the Bavarian Village.
The 2 large parking lots near the Fest hall should be made into multi level parking garages. It’s obviously much needed, & visitors especially will pay for the convenience of proximity. Oktoberfest could still use the top level of the garage & perhaps the skating rink that the town has been expressing a desire for for many years could be incorporated into one of these structures. The parking lot next to city hall could also be made into a multi level parking garage. Hopefully the parking fees charged could mitigate the cost over building these structures over time?
The parking situation has gotten so bad, that they are parking at Safeway, and walking to town. The customers have no where to park. They are even parking in the area where the Safeway trucks back into the dock door.
Take the pay parking lots in town and make them into multi level parking by go down a level, have a street-level and then go up one level. That will triple the parking in those areas.
The city has no interest in spending money on parking. If they did, it would have been solved long ago. At one time, the DOT land at the west end of the city was being talked about as being for sale…if that purchase could be made that would be great parking area. You don’t want to block the view of town with parking garages…so no two story garages in front of the fest hall. honestly…purchase the grade school land and put parking there. that’s a huge area and if you charge for parking it would eventually pay for itself.
No problems anymore. Lots of parking now in Leavenworth. Come and enjoy.
