The State Department of Health and National Centers for Disease Control are investigating 16 cases of salmonella in Washington, along with 350 more in 47 other states. Depsite dozens of hospitalizations, no deaths have been reported.
Officials believe the majority of the infections came from handling chickens, ducks and/or geese people keep at home in their backyards. The CDC is asking all poultry owners to learn the best ways to handle farm animals and ways to keep you and your kids clean from their germs.
