Chelan PUD Partnering with Stemilt Growers on New Olds Station Substation

Even as the Chelan County PUD wraps up work on a new Leavenworth substation site, PUD engineers are working to meet future growth in other areas of the county, including north Wenatchee. The current Olds Station substation was built in 1979 and, in addition to the aging equipment, is now at 90 percent capacity.
Chelan PUD commission Steve McKenna tells KOHO Stemilt Growers is expanding operations in Olds Station and has level land available just off Highway 97A, well located for a new substation near the area’s load center. McKenna says plans and design are in development and construction could start late next year.
McKenna also talks about long-term facilities planning to consolidate the PUD’s offices and maintenance buildings into a single, new location.
