Seasonal Sage Hills Closure for Mule Deer Starts Tomorrow

The Chelan County Public Utility District, in conjunction with the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife will once again coordinate the seasonal closure of the Sage Hills Trails area tomorrow. The beaten paths west of Wenatchee are a popular spot for recreationists, but are also a favorite grazing spot for wintering mule deer and other wildlife. The desistance began a decade ago in an effort to protect the animal’s habitat, and Chelan PUD Wildlife Program Manager Von Pope tells KOHO even though the annual practice does prevent human access to 960 acres of land in the area, the positive impacts have been noted by both the entities involved in the closure and general public as well.
