Governor Calls for Alcoa Smelter to Reopen

Governor Jay Inslee was in Wenatchee Friday, speaking at a number of workshops and listening sessions throughout the city.
He attended the Wildland Fire Council’s meeting on addressing short- and long-term goals for restoration and recovery efforts, and budgetary needs, related to local wildfires. Gov. Inslee and local leaders celebrated the recent state transportation funding package and unveiled Connecting Washington highway signs for the US 2/SR 285 North Wenatchee Corridor project, the SR 28 East Wenatchee Corridor project and the DOT’s Euclid Avenue Facility economic development project.
He also met with the Alcoa Working Group to talk about ways to help laid-off employees and potentially restart the idled smelter south of Wenatchee. KOHO’s Dan Langager was there and filed this report.
