Chelan County Emergency Management officials have downgraded evacuation levels on the Spromberg Fire. The stretch between Sunitsch Canyon and Eagle Creek is now at Level 2 status. All other evacuation levels remain unchanged, including the Level 3 notice for Spromberg Canyon and the area from Eagle Creek to Leavenworth at U.S. Highway 2, which is still at a Level 1.

Roadblocks have been established on the Chumstick Highway between the main fire zone at Spromberg Canyon Road & Sunitsch Canyon south to Eagle Creek. However, Chelan County EMS is now allowing limited access to the area for business owners, school buses, service technicians and package delivery. No other traffic is allowed beyond the closures. The emergency zone's established speed limit is 25 m.p.h.

There is no new information regarding the size of the fire, which at last official word was still at 40 acres as of early this morning. The cause is still under investigation, although officials have ruled out lightning as a possible ignition source.
